Día del amor y la amistad: San Valentín 2015

Written By: Yolanda De Lucas Burneo - Feb• 14•15

Saint Valentine’s Day will be celebrated in most parts of the World this Saturday 14th of February, so allow me  to remind you the story behind such a day.
Valentinus was a humble Christian Martyr who remained firm on his Christian beliefs at the expense of his own liberty in a time when Emperor Claudius II (270 A.D.) made it punishable to Romans to associate with Christians. During his life in prison he agreed to show his jailer’s daughter Julia, a pretty blind young girl, the unknown world through his own eyes, wisdom and quiet strength. Thanks to Valentinus, the blind young lady learnt to believe and remained faithful…..and one day suddenly a bright light lit up the cell and she could see!
On the eve of his death Valentinus wrote a last note to Julia, urging her to stay close to God. He signed it, «From your Valentine.» His sentence was carried out the next day, February 14, and ever since messages of affection, love, and devotion are exchanged around the world on this day.
